Tear-down of Havoc Heli
This is one of my experience on checking the functioning mechanism of a very old havoc heli toy helicopter. It has very small micro level parts. Even the battery is very small, Lithium-Polymer type 3.7V 50mA. After clearly inspecting the light weighed engine part of the helicopter, it was identified how it has built up with a very small controlling circuit consisting small main motor and tail motor. Its all parts were looked physically healthy and functioning properly. But it was with somewhat issue as even the indicator lights did not illuminate at its operation even charged it long. You can see all the parts in below picture.

I checked further. The battery voltage does not rise even after a long charge. It was 0.72V. I realized that the battery is malfunctioning. I removed the battery and took it out.

Test Charging |
I connected it to a voltage variable power supply and tried to charge the battery. But the battery voltage does not exceed 1V. I increased the voltage up to 15V and tried further. But the similar result obtained. If a Li-Po battery has not charged so long, it will not be able to charge again. The battery was thrown into the recycling basket. Because Li-Po battery is harmful to the environment.
Here are some common causes identified when using a Li-Po battery. The special feature here is its light weight. Another is the ability to get a high current even with small in size. It is also advantageous of being able to recharge quickly. Low cost is another advantage.

Replacing the Battery
A few days later I tried to find a similar type of Li-Po battery. After searching several electronics stores, I was lucky enough to find a battery. Needle tip soldering was required to solder the battery. This has to be done very carefully since if got short circuit, it can damage the battery or the circuit. I finally checked everything again and powered on the switch. It was very happy! the blue LED bulb lit up with flashing. Then I charged the battery after reassembling all the parts. Since the battery had its original charge, it could get completed within few minutes. But when the battery is fully discharged, it took about 20 minutes to charge. If the charge light of the remote controller is not illuminated (green light will be off when fully charged.) then it is ready to fly.

Flying
When it is operating with the remote controller, the main rotor will rotate very fast. The defective Havoc Heli has got resolved and flying again. It is a great pleasure!

First Flying Test
I always feel that the internal structure of this RC helicopter is very complicated. If it breaks, I will throw it away directly.
